This flavorful slow cooker carnitas recipe features tender pork shoulder, seasoned and simmered with fresh orange and lime juice. Ingredients
- (3 lbs.) Pork Shoulder Roast, Small
- (2 small) Limes
- (1 large) Orange
- (1 tbsp) Dried Oregano
- (2 tsp) Ground Cumin
- (1 tsp) Chili Powder
- (2 tsp) Salt
- (1 tsp) Black Pepper
- (1, chopped) Yellow Onion
- (4, minced) Garlic Cloves
- (1) Bay Leaf
Directions
- Place pork roast in slow cooker.
- In a small bowl, mix together seasonings. Rub spice mixture on all sides of the pork. Place pork fat side up in the slow cooker.
- Squeeze orange and lime juice around sides of the pork. Add the onion, garlic, and the bay leaf.
- Cover and cook on low for 8 hours, or on high for 6, until pork shreds easily.
- Remove from the slow cooker, discard excess fat and bay leaf, and shred pork.
- Spread the pork out in a single layer on a baking sheet lines with foil. Add a little bit of the juice from the pot. Put pork in the oven on broil for 5 to 10 minutes.
